The article identifies and analyzes non-verbal components of communication (NVCСs) in the dialogues of the characters of Lermontov’s novel “A Hero of Our Time”, depicted by the author and significant for the description of these characters. In general, the NVCCs play a very important role in the representation and characterization of Lermontov’s characters. It is possible to note their variety (carried out according to rules and norms of communication vs those representing erroneous communicative actions or communicative failures), a variety of messages conveyed by them (means of attracting attention, etiquette communicative actions, signals of harmonic and disharmonic tonality) and interesting reflexion of the characters (first of all Pechorin) about the NVCCs.
